Amazing Atmosphere in Portuguese Roller Hockey

One more season is getting close to finish in most European Championships. After FC Barcelona, Dornbirn RHC, Grimsby, Nofit and HC Dinan Quévert victories in Spanish, Austrian, English, Israeli and French championships, also 1ª Divisão in Portugal it's almost finding it champion. After another amazing and emotional "O Clássico" between the two biggest Portuguese roller hockey clubs, Porto and Benfica, the final result was 5-5. This result is favorable to the home team, Benfica, that can stop Porto's supremacy in Portuguese hockey in last decade. With one more point than Porto, Benfica will try to win Tigres de Almeirim on last journey, and assure it 21st Portuguese title. But the reason of this article has something about Emotion and Atmosphere in roller hockey, as happen in sports like football and basketball. Which amateur sport can have something like the next video??? This was the last Benfica's goal appointed by one of greatest Portuguese players, Sérgio Silva.

The celebration after was unique, and is an image about how special is this sport for a lot of people!! Although our sort can't have the same visibility, managers with the same perspicacity, and of course the same money  than the majority of other sports, has something special, some kind of mystique and passion. It is just because of this that roller hockey can't stop!!!

Roller Hockey as an University Sport

Flyer of Cup (source:Desporto UP facebook)
All of us, which had the pleasure to study in Universities know about the amount of sports that could be practice, representing our Faculties/Universities. Although our roller hockey doesn't have almost expressive concerning University sport. One of the uniques countries where this is possible is Portugal, but even here it's impossible to compare their power with other sports like football, handball, rugby, athletics...
One of the unique championship each year, is "Torneio dos Campeões". Universidade do Porto organizer of the competition this year, that took place today, in Valongo, near Porto, with 4 men teams and 4 women teams from 5 different universities:
-Universidade do Porto (men and women)
-Universidade do Minho (men)
-Instituto Politécnico do Porto (men and women)
-Associação Académica de Coimbra (men and women)
-Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (women)

It's important to note that it's the first time that Women play in this tournament what means, something new for our sport in Portuguese universities.

Rolling Together believes that Universities could have an essential role to assure that young players formed in clubs, when apply for universities, could have here an opportunity to keep practicing roller hockey. We can't forget about United States University sports example, where there are very important competitions concerning American Football and Basketball. Here the students reach in a lot of cases professional level.

Furthermore, for example in Chile some of the existent teams are part of National Universities, eg: Universidad de Chile and Universidad Católicaand the same happens in Mexico, eg: BUAP (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla and UABC (Universidad Autónoma de Baja California). The same could happen in other countries, having University teams competing in national competitions, and not just in university championships (eg. Associação Académica de Coimbra , team from Coimbra's University Association, playing in 2nd Portuguese Division).

One more idea to National Federations think about :)

Benfica's Roller Hockey section wants to create B team

Benfica’s head of the roller hockey section, José Trindade, announced the intention to create a B team in order to give more opportunities to the Academy’s youth.

"Although having vast potential, the Academy’s youth need to attain greater maturity so they can integrate more easily Benfica’s First Team," told José Trindade, speaking to Benfica TV.

At this moment Catalan and Italian teams have B teams, disputing regional championships, but for example this situation doesn't happen in Portugal. As the head of Benfica's hockey section, says this is a great opportunity to give experience to young players formed in school bases of the club. It would be nice if this initiative could go ahead.

Who has reason in all Continental Cup Controversy (with video press conference)

As almost Roller Hockey World know, last 5th November was a sad day for European Roller Hockey.
Like Rolling Together reported Liceo didn't take part in this Cup, because didn't agree with the host place and the date. CERH using the rules of this competition, said that Liceo doesn't have reason, so they must be punished with a money payment, and probevly will be forbidden to take part in next European Competitions between 1 and 3 years.
Although Liceo doesn't agree with CERH's decision about Continental Cup, and yesterday advance with a press conference (watch the video)

On it website they put available all documentation that will use to defend themselves:
Allegations from RFEP (Spanish Federation to CERS
Recurse of HC Coinasa Liceo
Attachment of HC Coinasa Liceo Recurse
CEA Report

Who has reason in all this novel?? Roller Hockey doesn't need this kind of Polemics.
They just kill our fragile sport. Be respectful with it please!

A New ERA in Roller Hockey and TV

After many years without Roller Hockey live on TV, seems that situation is changing finally in Portugal and Spain.
There are two main reasons to reach this amazing goal for our sport:
  1. A big effort by federations together with public and private TV's;
  2. Web TV's started to grow and to prove that Roller Hockey still has market.
In Portugal the "Primeira Divisão" (Firs Division) was always broad-casted until some years ago, when the Portuguese Roller Sports Federation stopped the agreement with RTP, public TV.
However the agreement was renovated again and all the season of  2011/2012 will have at least a match broad-casted at 15:00 (+0 GMT Portuguese Time) all Saturdays.

In Spain the agreement was concluded between Spanish Federation and two channels TV3 and RTVE, being transmitted all Monday at 21:00 hours (+1 GMT, Spanish Time) in these channels and also in RFEP TV.

Italy keeps the agreement with RAI (not available by internet out of Italy) broadcasting weekly the games of the Italian league.

Beside the National Federation Agreements there are WEBTV's that also will transmit some matches of each competition. Usually this channels are part of the clubs, but others regional channels like:

Portugal:
 Italy:
Argentina:
Chile
These are very important examples, and all Roller Hockey Fans would like to watch soon the same in other countries. It's very important to countries like France, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Colombia... where the Roller Hockey wants to reach other lever to guarantee transmissions by television or internet...

On the next Portuguese Link you can have weekly almost all matches in all Europe that have Broadcast by TV and WebTV:
http://hoqueipatins.com/2011-12/11-12_jogos_na_tv.htm

Do you want to do the Same and create a WEBTV??
Watch it

Just an important reminder, that for the first time ever all matches in FIRS World Cup Senior and Junior were broadcasted by WebTV's...
