Barcelona plays in Shopping Center

This time was Barcelona showing an awesome example, about what can be done to promote our Sport.
During one day, some of the best World roller hockey players went to a Barcelona's shopping center and played roller hockey with some young players.

Such a simple event can gives a lot of visibility to our sport.
It is more than time to Federations, clubs, players, coaches and brands get unified and promote our sport as it deserves.

Competitions like European League Final 4 must be broadcasted in some of the most important World Sport Channels. I'm sure with a good organization we could reach such an important goal.
Also the Angolan World Cup should have this opportunity. For example the 2009 World Cup held in Vigo and Pontevedra was broadcasted by Aljazeera sport channel.
Would be good to see them again promoting roller hockey.
Since the World Cup will be held in Africa for the first time a lot of efforts should be done to introduce our sport in other African countries. This is a unique opportunity to show roller hockey in Africa

I hope CIRH, CERH, and each competition organization can think about this, and copy promoting events as the one from Barça. A sport that has clubs like Benfica, Barcelona, Porto, Liceo, Sport Recife and River Plate should be in other step of development.

Let's hope that soon the responsible entities can change the way of roller hockey!!!

CERH TV - A Dream Coming True

Important agreement signed between Cerh and Dartfish.tv

The meeting between Cerh President Fernando Graça, 2nd v. presidente Cesare Ariatti, J.P. Piemontesi and Dartfish manager
On the 31st. of March 2013, in Montreux, Switzerland, CERH signed an important agreement with DARTFISH., the Swiss company that has the technical and organisational rights of a specific television platform, which will be used by CERH TV for the production and dissemination of images of the different European roller hockey events. l'or the achievement of this important agreement, it is important to highlight the work carried out by the CERH Member, Mr. Jean Baptiste Piemontesi , who was responsible for the negotiations undertaken with DARTFISH.
With this link to the DARTFISH platform, the CERH will be able to launch a new initiative — the CERH TV - that will broadcast, live and via web streaming, all the main European Rink Hockey events. I stress the fact that CERH TV will insure the live transmission of all games of the quarter-finals of the European League, as well as all the Final 4 matches of all European club competitions, in particular, the remale Cup, the CERS Cup and the European league. In addition, can also be displayed on CERH TV all the games of the 11-17 Male European Championship and of the European Women Championship, both of them to be held in September.
To operationalize these productions, the clubs will have to ensure - through an application to give free of charge by CERH — the loading of images of their games on the CERH TV platform, whose videos will be immediately available for viewing by all users, which could make the upload from the entire match or just from its highlits.
The DARTFISH platform could also be made available, under conditions of hiring very favourable, to all the National Federations, which will be able to take advantage of the capacity of this DARTFISH platform to upload and watch videos of the games of their national rink hockey competitions. In this way and through a specific software programme — and the support of very simple applications -preselected images may be used, in the light of the selection criteria that is freely established - for example, the goals scored, the penalties or the direct free hits, the referees disciplinary sanctions, or the most interesting or controversial actions during the game — insuring, that way, the use a very useful tool for the analysis and/or production of specific jobs, to be developed by the technical staff, athletes, referees and its managers, in particular:
  • The studies carried out by the coaches, involving technical and tactical aspects of any game, either in collective terms or in individual terms (team analysis and/or players evaluations)
  • An assessment from the Referees Committees, concerning the performance shown by the referees during the matches
The feasibility of this agreement with DARTFISH, also allows CERH TV to ensure to all the passionate lovers of Rink I{ockey a broader access to the images of the European competitions, either through live broadcasts or through the videos that will be available.
It is, thus, a revolution in the field of the rink hockey television dissemination, allowing the CERH sustain service levels that are so important and necessary to the support and development of our beloved sport ... Now and in the future!

Amazing Atmosphere in Portuguese Roller Hockey

One more season is getting close to finish in most European Championships. After FC Barcelona, Dornbirn RHC, Grimsby, Nofit and HC Dinan Quévert victories in Spanish, Austrian, English, Israeli and French championships, also 1ª Divisão in Portugal it's almost finding it champion. After another amazing and emotional "O Clássico" between the two biggest Portuguese roller hockey clubs, Porto and Benfica, the final result was 5-5. This result is favorable to the home team, Benfica, that can stop Porto's supremacy in Portuguese hockey in last decade. With one more point than Porto, Benfica will try to win Tigres de Almeirim on last journey, and assure it 21st Portuguese title. But the reason of this article has something about Emotion and Atmosphere in roller hockey, as happen in sports like football and basketball. Which amateur sport can have something like the next video??? This was the last Benfica's goal appointed by one of greatest Portuguese players, Sérgio Silva.

The celebration after was unique, and is an image about how special is this sport for a lot of people!! Although our sort can't have the same visibility, managers with the same perspicacity, and of course the same money  than the majority of other sports, has something special, some kind of mystique and passion. It is just because of this that roller hockey can't stop!!!

Roller Hockey also present in books

Even in a World dominated by Internet nowadays, Books still have an important place concerning information.
Although there are some books about roller hockey, the situation could be much better. First information is written just in a few languages, and after there are almost any book about technical aspects.
This topic will promote four books:
    • "Campeonatos do Mundo de Hóquei em Patins-Contributos para a História"
    • "Basic Roller Hockey"
    • "ABC Roller Hockey"
    • "Roller Hockey Basic Tactics"
The first one is about history of the sport (in Portuguese), the three after concerns Coaching Manuals (in English), and the last one is about the femalle Chilean World Champions in 2006.

Book about the history of rink-hockey World Championships

The book about the history of Rink-Hockey World Championships is available at the editor Despertar Memórias.
The book was written by one of the persons that has contributed more to our sport, managing website, blog, databases..., just about roller hockey, Fernando Castro!
The book, with 388 pages, presents all the World Championships A (from 1936 to 2009) and B (from 1984 to 2010), as well as youth and women competitions, with indications of players, goalers, referees, coaches and other relevant informations.

Also, a section for the most relevant countries in rink-hockey is presented, with a list of participating players and some interesting statistics for each country.

Coaching 'Bibles' of Roller Hockey For Sale

For the past 20 years, the NRHA and many clubs including those in Herne Bay and Manchester have subscribed to the three books produced by Ismael Figueiredo: Basic Roller Hockey, ABC of Roller Hockey and Roller Hockey Book of Tactics.

Exchange programs, a good way to share Roller Hockey skills

As everything in life, concerning Roller Hockey there are better people playing it and other not so much, countries that are wonderful playing this sports, other that need to learn a lot...
Life is like that, and one of the best ways to accelerate the learning time is sharing ideas and knowledge concerning roller hockey.

This work has been done since sometime in countries where this sport is played.
For example a national coach that come from another country, as happen in Angola, Brazil, England, South Africa..
Jordi Camps, Josep Maria Barbera, South African Federation and players that took part in course/training session at APF

Usually the main coach's exporters are Porugal and Catalonia. For example Catalonian Roller Sports Federation has an exchange program to send coaches to other countries to help the develop of roller hockey.

José Carlos with Al Dahklyea club from Egypt
Another example is the travel of some roller hockey coaches to other countries to teach how to play better. This happened last year in Egypt, when Mr. José Carlos went there for a week and gave new kwoledges to Egyptian players. This was very important before the participation in African Clubs Cup.

Portuguese and French players playing in Mexico
One more example are players that travel or went to other countries to work and are volunteers to play for teams existing there. A recent example of this, was the participation of two roller hockey players, Frederico Abrantes from Portugal, and Martin Babilotte from France, in a Mexican Tournament.
Also during the Brazilian Championship "Esport Clube Corrêas" had in their constitution three Portuguese that are living in Rio de Janeiro, and were invited to play for Corrêas side.

The last example is the travel of school or senior teams to other countries, where young players can share experiences with other players from different parts of the world.
Almost all the young tournaments are international, receiving also foreign teams.

Israel young team that played "Torneio dos Cerejinhas" in 2010
One good example was the participation of an Israel young team in a tournament in Madeira's Islands (Portugal). Israel people see this has one opportunity to improve it roller hockey quality and is confirmed that this year, again a young team from Israel will compete in a tournament hosted in Catalonia.

The part of the world where this exchange is less observed is Asia. Beyond Asia Cup, there's no more exchange activity. But a hopeful news comes from India and Pakistan, because for the first time, a Pakistan team will compete in an Indian national tournament, Federal Roller Hockey Premier League. Also the participation of the Argentinian club, Parana Rowing Club at this tournament seems like an excellent news to Asian Roller Hockey.

As the name of this blog says Rolling Together is fundamental to improve the quality of our sport, and spread it in other countries. So if you are a coach, a player, a fan, when you travel/work in other region, think before to contact possible roller hockey clubs or players to teach, learn or just play there for a while...

How to promote Roller Hockey in XXI Century??

Kids enjoying our Sport in a Square of Avila
One of the biggest problems of Roller Hockey comparing with others like football, basket, tennis... is it promotion around the World.
Most of the times is hard to think in Marketing ideas to find solutions to this problem.

Happily there are a lot of people that wants to see Roller Hockey in other level and with more players.
The unique form to reach this point, is betting and teaching the young generation about the beauty of Roller Hockey.

For example last weeks was done in Avila, Spain a Roller Hockey Weekend Camp where a lot of kids could learn more about Roller Hockey. the right image shows the young players rolling in a square of this city, a good marketing idea to promote our sport also also to normal citizians.

Stuart Carvalhais club that competed in the Portuguese Final 4 of Juveniles
Another example comes from Portugal and is a Roller Hockey school inside a normal public school. In Portugal there's a sport program to schools, but unhappily Roller Hockey doesn't make part of it yet. Although João Campelo, a ex player, wanted to promote our sport in a portuguese school, "Escola Secundária Stuart Carvalhais", in Massamá, Portugal, and founded 10 years ago this club inside the school.
After 10 years the club is one of the bests in the formation of roller hockey players in Portugal, and has disputed the final four of the Juveniles National Championships, together with some of the best teams of Portugal like SL Benfica, FC Porto and HC Braga.

    Young players rolling in Valongo

Another idea that comes from Portugal is the promotion of the sport inside a Shopping Mall, as appears on the photo.
In this case AD Valongo, a club from Valongo city, invited all young to roll or to learn it.
Also FC Bom-Sucesso (another portuguese club) did a similar campaign but inside a traditional Portuguese Market.

To show how Roller Hockey must come to the streets of cities and towns all over the World watch the next video, that was a marketing idea to promote the  2011 CERS Cup Final 4 , in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Catalonia.

Young playing Roller Hockey in the middle of Vilanova i la Geltrú, host city of CERS Cup Final 4 in 2011

All these 4 examples, are simple ideas that were used to promote our sport. Together with all the  Internet skills that we can use for free nowadays (youtube, facebook, twitter, softwares) it is simple to promote our sport, just takes sometime.

Why you don't try one of them in your city or town??
    Do you accept the Challenge??

I would be very receptive to promote it after in Rolling Together

Roller Hockey Live on TV is possible

By: Tiago Silva (Best Hoquei Blog)
All the World Roller Hockey Fans know that one of the more important problems of our sport, is the lack of TV transmissions.
Usually the argument is that Roller Hockey is not attractive, the ball is to small...
As we know this is not true and now was proved by Porto Canal/MediaPro director Juan Figueroa Boullosa, in declarations to Mundo do Hóquei.
At last weeks they have been doing weekly transmissions of Portuguese League, He says that "Roller Hockey works good on TV, against what some people usually says. In Portugal is a very famous sport, that has market.Next season is not sure if Porto Canal will keep or not Roller Hockey transmissions.MediaPro is producing these matches cooperating with TA Sport, that got a good advertisement support.
To complete he says:"It is important to refer that without enterprise support, there's not hockey on TV."
